THE NEW ALBUM IS COMING SOON
IT DOESN’T HAVE A DEFINITIVE TITLE YET, A LOT OF IDEAS ARE SPINNING IN MY HEAD:
choose the one of one of the songs, find a symbolic title of my inspiration in the creation of all its music and lyrics, take one excerpt… And in which of the two languages, Turkish or French? In any case, whatever the solution, it will be found soon because all the songs have been recorded and the album is now in mixing. A clip was even made!
A RECORDED AND MIXED ALBUM BETWEEN ISTANBUL AND IZMIR
Most of the songs on the album, I imagined them several years ago, since I returned to Turkey. Sometimes it’s the words, at least a few, that come first, but more often it’s the music. The song, the song above all. I memorize the melodies by simply accompanying myself with an instrument, ukulele, jaw harp, calimba or some percussion, tambourine, bendir. I record the progress and the different versions on my phone like I would take notes in a notebook. During the months of confinement during which the coronavirus pandemic forced us to stay at home, I was particularly studious. In the spring, I had made a selection from all these draft songs and contacted a few musician friends. Finally, Bilgin Canaz (ney), Gürkan Özkan (tablas) and Ersin Ersavaş (lute, oud, bass and programming) form with me the group which plays the music of my songs. And it was Ersin who, at his home in Istanbul, made all the arrangements.
I had planned to record the vocal parts in Istanbul, at the Hayyam studio, but the pollution and the air conditioning made me sick and it was finally in Ömer Erciyes’ home studio, Mandala, that this work was made. The climate of the mountains of Karaburun, 80 km from my home, suited me better than that of the shores of the Bosphorus! However, it is there, at the ADA Music studio, that the mixing will take place.
A SONG INSPIRED BY MY CHILDHOOD
Here is a possible translation of an excerpt from one of my songs for this album:
I see this moment of my childhood
My mother rocked me on her feet
The stars were slipping and falling on me
It’s so strange, I feel strange, so strange…
This song, I wrote it while remembering certain moments of my childhood. The lyrics tell about the emotions and feelings that can overwhelm us sometimes, when we discover the world around us, nature and humanity. That touches me a lot, it says a lot about myself and I chose it to be illustrated by a clip shot on the shores of the Aegean Sea and in the hills of the Izmir region, very close to where I live. I entrusted the realization to Atilla Zengin, one of the sons of my painter friend Gülsen Cengiz. He is young but very talented and inspired. I love working with all these people who are like family. I can’t wait to see how his images will interact with my song. Also impatient to let you discover it!
